Ever wondered what a volcano looks like on the inside? This unique volcano tour, takes you literally inside a dormant volcano, through the top crater and to the bottom of its magma chamber, once filled with steaming hot lava.

Itinerary

 

The dormant Þríhnúkagígur volcano (yeah, good luck trying to pronounce it!) is a unique natural phenomenon. By putting up the necessary gear and equipment, we´ve created a tour that opens the door to a new world. And it really isn´t that complicated to experience it, only an easy 40 minute hike to the crater and then the guts to descend 120 meters/400 ft to the bottom of the crater in an open cable lift.

Free pick up at hotels and guesthouses in the Greater Reykjavík area 45 min before departure.

Bring with you good hiking shoes.


Fitness level needed: Moderate (the level of difficulty is 2 out of 5). No knowledge of hiking or climbing is required. It’s not a steep uphill walk, but the surface is uneven in places. The last 10 minutes of the hike are the more challenging, with an elevation of around 50 m/150 ft. This is NOT a tour for those in limited physical shape.

Distance Walked: Approximately 3,5 km (2 miles) each way. The walk usually takes around 45–50 minutes (depending on the condition of people in the group). A guide will be with you at all times during the walk.

CANCELLATION: – PLEASE NOTE that different and more strict cancellation terms apply to this tour than for most other tours:

All cancellations must reach TOURIS in written form, via email, to the address tour@tour.is

Confirming a booking involves costs. TOURIS will always keep a confirmation fee (10% of the booking fee), regardless of the time of cancellation. Otherwise, cancellation charges are as follows (days of notice are based on date of booked tour):


• If you cancel with more than 7 days notice: 90% is refunded
• If you cancel with 3–7 days notice: 50% is refunded
• If you cancel with less than 72 hours notice: No refund is made


TOURIS reserves the right to change or cancel bookings in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control, such as unfavourable weather or outside conditions, equipment malfunction, natural hazards or any other similar events.
If the tour is cancelled by TOURIS due to any of these reasons, you will be entitled to either a full refund or change your booking to another date and/or departure without having to pay any change fee.



Amending a booking
If you wish to make any changes to your confirmed booking, a change fee of 20,- Euros will apply. To amend a booking, please send us the request at tour@tour.is and refer to your original confirmation number. The new date/time of the tour will depend on availability. If there is no availability, standard cancellation fees will apply.
