Day 1. Arrival

Transfer to Reykjavík is on your own. We recommend the easy and convenient FlyBus Plus transfers. If you are arriving early, a great suggestion is to explore Reykjavik, the largest municipality in Iceland.
Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm).

Overnight stay in Reykjavik (airport transfer not included). Dinner on own.

Day 2. Geysir - Gullfoss – Skógar - Dyrhólaey – Vík

From Reykjavík we head through the village of Hveragerði to explore Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, and the nearby Geysir hot spring area to see the famous Great Geysir and the very active Strokkur that spouts every few minutes. There are numerous other hot springs and boiling mud pools in the area. Continue along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before we continue to Dyrhólaey* nature reserve. Continue to the small town of Vík.

Day 3. Vík – Skaftafell National Park – Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon – Höfn

Cross Eldhraun, the most extensive lava field ever to flow on the face of the earth in historical times, before reaching the small town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a former site of a 12th century Catholic convent. The tour continues over Skeiðarársandur flood plains to Skaftafell National Park. Continue to the stunning Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon with huge icebergs floating on the lagoon. Throughout the day we have magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier. Today ends in Höfn area, which is a seacoast village located near the glacier.

Dinner: Dinner is on your own this evening. Höfn is famous for its excellent langoustines (Norway lobsters), and several restaurants in the town offer this specialty.

Day 4. Höfn – East Fjords – Egilsstaðir

Today you will travel from Höfn through Almannaskarð Pass and stop to admire the majestic coastline. Continue to the towering mountains that form the magnificent East Fjords. Pass through coastal fjord villages on your way to Egilsstadir.

Day 5. Lake Mývatn Area

Explore the empty vastness of Möðrudalsöræfi, the highland desert plateau, heading towards the Lake Mývatn area. On the way, stop at Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall. Visit Námaskarð Pass with boiling mud pools and vibrant colors. Explore the natural beauty of the Lake Mývatn area, including the Skútustaðagígar pseudo craters and Laxá salmon river. The Mývatn area is famous for being the home to more species of ducks than any other place on Earth, with very diverse birdlife in general.

Day 6. Lake Mývatn - Akureyri - Siglufjordur

Start the day by exploring the strange lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Visit the magnificent Goðafoss waterfall and the old turf farm Laufás. Afterwards, continue to the picturescue Akureyri town, the largest in North Iceland. The town has charming buildings and beautiful view of the Eyjafjordur Fjord. After spending some time in Akureyri, continue along the coastal roads of Eyjafjordur and the Troll Peninsula. This is a beautiful drive along steep mountains with amazing views over the Arctic Sea and black sand coastline. Siglufjordur town has some of the finest timber buildings in the country, beautifully restored to their original glory. Siglufjordur is a very enjoyable and friendly town for an evening stroll.

Day 7. Skagafjörður - Borgarnes

We start the day by visiting Siglufjordur's award winning Herring-Era Museum. The museum recreates the atmosphere of the early 20th century when Siglufjordur was transformed into a herring boom town, thanks to a large migration of herring. Afterwards, head along majestic mountains and narrow passes to the historical town of Hofsos with its beautiful views over the ocean. After some time here, head onto Skagafjordur, considered to be one of the finest places in Iceland for historical preservation and horse breeding. Stop at Holar, one of Iceland’s most historical places. It was the cultural center of Iceland for over 700 years and has several fascinating ancient buildings on site. Today it is home to a world-famous agricultural university. This afternoon you’ll visit a local horse farm for an enjoyable introduction to the unique Icelandic horse breed with its special fifth gait – the tolt. Continue towards the village of Blonduos, built on both sides of Blanda, a river formed from a wilderness glacier. Cross the Holtavorduheidi plateau through Borgarfjordur to the beautiful town of Borgarnes.

Day 8. Borgarfjörður - Þingvellir National Park - Reykjavík

Drive to Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in the world. A stop will be made to admire the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls, before we continue via Hvalfjörður Fjord to Lake Þingvallavatn, the largest lake in the country, and Þingvellir National Park. This UNESCO heritage site is where the world’s oldest continuing parliamentary government was founded in the 10th century. It is also the place where the North American and European tectonic plates meet. The road takes you back to Reykjavik where you’ll enjoy a short “farewell” city sightseeing tour before being dropped off at your hotel for the final night.

Travel Tips:

We suggest bringing a mosquito/fly head net for use on Day 5, as there can be harmless midges around Lake Myvatn. It‘s not required, but some visitors have found it more comfortable.

A non refundable deposit of 20%, of the total package price should reach TOURIS within 3 days of confirmation of booking and full payment not later than 6 weeks prior to tour departure. In case of delay on payments, TOURIS will reserve the right to treat this as a cancellation and withdraw its confirmation of the services.

Every detail regarding the booking must be included, in order for TOURIS to ensure efficiency, including the passengers´ name, flight information, all accommodation, tours and other services.

TOURIS accepts Visa and Mastercard for the payment of this tour.

Travel Insurance:
To avoid dispute in case of cancellation, we strongly recommend that our clients purchase a comprehensive travel insurance in their home country, that covers your cost should you have to cancel your tour. This kind of travel insurance is usually not expensive and it frequently covers other risks too.

Children 6-11 years old travelling with 2 adults and sharing 1 DBL room: 25% discount (valid only per 1 child)
Children 12 years and older pay full price as adults.
It is not recommended that children 0-5 years old travel on scheduled tours.
