Itinerary

Day 1. South Coast with Glacier Walk and Ice Cave exploration

After your driver guide picks you up at your accommodation (07:30 am) in Reykjavík, you will head east towards the picturesque south coast. The more east we get the more stunning the scenery becomes. Numerous waterfalls tumble down from steep cliffs and giant glaciers and vast black deserts form a sharp contrast. We stop at the picturesque little village of Vík at the foot of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull and we will go on an exciting glacier walk on Skaftafellsjökull glacier where we will explore an ice cave if the conditions are favourable. At the end of the afternoon we reach our luxurious 4-star hotel in time for dinner (not included). In the evening we will be on the lookout for the magical lights of the winter sky, the aurora borealis, hoping they will make an appearance for us. If not we might receicve a wake-up call during the night if auroras are spotted.

Day 2. Icebergs and Black Beaches

Today we head further east, taking in the vast open sand plains and the mighty Vatnajökull ice cap in the distance.
Vast alpine peaks perforate the background as we admire the wonders of the Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), complete with huge icebergs and sunbathing seals. A short walk from the Glacier Lagoon brings us to the Diamond Beach, named after its countless stranded icebergs. As we drive back to Reykjavík we have the time to stop and take in some of the wonders the south coast is waiting to reveal. The black sand beach of Reynisfjara meets us first where we witness the raw power of the Atlantic Ocean. Further along, we witness the majestic waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss before returning to Reykjavík in late afternoon/early evening.
