Day 3. The Lava Tunnel & The Blue Lagoon
In the morning you will be picked up for a 3 hours tour to the Lave Tunnel.
Iceland is known for its volcanic activity across the country. This is your chance to explore the fascinating subterranean landscape of one of Iceland’s many lava fields.
Raufarhólshellir is one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. This is a great opportunity to see the path of an ancient volcanic eruption. The Leitahraun eruption carved out the landscape around 5200 years ago. Every winter, wondrous icicles appear at the mouth of the cave.
The tunnel stretches about 4500 ft (1360 m), 30 m wide with headroom up to 10 m high. less multitude of colors and jagged rock formations, this lava caving tour is sure to give you a unique and captivating experience. This is a perfect opportunity to step outside your comfort zone and discover something completely new. In the winter time, you are sure to see some amazing icicles hanging from the cave roof on your underworld adventure. Prepare to get down on all fours on this great half day tour. You will spend about 55 – 60 minutes inside the cave. After that the bus will take you back to Reykjavík.
Remember to bring:
Warm outdoor clothing, waterproof jacket and pants, headwear and gloves. Good hiking shoes are highly recommended.
After the break, - board the Blue Lagoon transfer bus, which leaves Reykjavík at 14:00, and takes you to the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa situated in a lava field south of Reykjavík capital area. Once there you have many recreational options such as walking in the Blue Lagoon’s spectacular surroundings, bathing in the milky blue-green water or enjoying a massage under the open sky. Return transfers to Reykjavík are available at 16:15, 17:15, 18:15, 19:15, 20:15 and 22:15.
