Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival and Magical Northern Lights by Super Jeep

Please note that Extra nights can be added to the package upon request.

Upon arrival at Keflavik airport a Flybus transfer will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavik. Depending on your arrival the rest of the day will be free to explore Reykjavik, visit museums, landmarks etc. Visit the Northern Lights Center, where you will learn about the phenomenon of northern lights by viewing facts and figures on wall posters, HD screens and interactive devices. Downtown Reykjavík offers excellent restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs.

A Super Jeep will pick you up at your hotel around 20:00 to take you far from the city light to search for the Northern Lights. We leave the light pollution of the city in the evening on this approximately 3 - 4 hour tour and head out into the dark and cold night in our super jeep that are specially modified for the wild Icelandic terrain. We will drive wherever the lights take us, even on mountain roads, in our search for the best locations to view this fabulous solar display swirling in the sky in a symphony of magical colors and shapes.

If we aren’t successful in finding the lights right away we drive on to good locations our drivers have found to be successful in our bid to track them down. This phenomenal display of colors, varying from greenish yellow to beautiful shades of blue, red, pink, purple and white is a sight you will never forget. The spectacular Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis are created by electrically charged particles and create such a display they’re known to take people’s breath away.

Please note that it’s not possible to guarantee the Northern lights. The Northern Lights superjeep tour is dependent on the weather and sky conditions and we reserve the right to cancel at any time. If the evening tour goes ahead and the Northern Lights are not seen, we will offer you to try once again for free!

It is important to understand that in Iceland you can experience all four seasons in less than one day. It is vital to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing like waterproof, walking shoes, dress in layers to be able to enjoy your journey to the fullest.

Day 2. The Great Golden Circle and Langjökull Glacier

At 08:30, - pick up at your hotel for The Golden Circle Super Jeep tour to some of the most popular sites in South Iceland, Thingvellir National Park, Waterfall Gullfoss, The Geysir area with erupting geysers and hot springs and more. We also head into the uninhabited interior highlands on a rough trail, - only passable in winter by Super Jeep and to Langjökull, the second largest glacier in Iceland.

This classic drive begins with a visit to Þingvellir, a National Park and site of the World’s oldest parliament (established on the site in 930 AD) which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004. The entrance to Þingvellir is a walk through the Almannagjá gorge, visible evidence of plate tectonic activity on the European-American fault-line which is still today pushing the two continents apart and creating Iceland, geology’s youngest country. Some of the rifts are full of clear water and have been a popular place for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Then it’s on to the Geysir geothermal area, which has given its name to spouting hot springs all over the world and is one of the greatest natural attractions in Iceland.

Before our next stop we visit another of our iconic and impressive natural features, Gullfoss. It goes by the name the Golden waterfall and carries the meltwater from Langjökull glacier down Hvítá river. The waterfall has distinct curves and thus adding drama to the powerful display.

You can grab something to eat at either Gullfoss or Geysir café before we drive on the mountain road Kjölur, up on Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland with its endless snowfields and wonderful panoramic views of south Iceland. The journey from the glacier provides photo opportunities and some serious jeep fun at the glaciers edge before we head back to Reykjavik.

Please bring loose change for toilet fees, warm clothes, a camera and some snacks for the ride. The driver will be stopping at service stations should you wish to purchase something there.

Day 3. Departure

A Flybus transfer from your hotel or a nearby Bus Stop to Keflavík airport.
