Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival and Magical Northern Lights by Super Jeep

Please note that Extra nights can be added to the package upon request.

Upon arrival at Keflavik airport a Flybus transfer is included to your accommodation in Reykjavik. You will be free for the rest of the afternoon to explore Reykjavik, visit museums, landmarks etc. Visit the Northern Lights Center, where you will learn about the phenomenon of northern lights by viewing facts and figures on wall posters, HD screens and interactive devices. Downtown Reykjavík offers excellent restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs.

A Super Jeep will pick you up at your hotel around 20:00 to take you far from the city light to search for the Northern Lights. We leave the light pollution of the city in the evening on this approximately 3 - 4 hour tour and head out into the dark and cold night in our super jeep that are specially modified for the wild Icelandic terrain. We will drive wherever the lights take us, even on mountain roads, in our search for the best locations to view this fabulous solar display swirling in the sky in a symphony of magical colors and shapes.

If we aren’t successful in finding the lights right away we drive on to good locations our drivers have found to be successful in our bid to track them down. This phenomenal display of colors, varying from greenish yellow to beautiful shades of blue, red, pink, purple and white is a sight you will never forget. The spectacular Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis are created by electrically charged particles and create such a display they’re known to take people’s breath away.

Please note that it’s not possible to guarantee the Northern lights. The Northern Lights superjeep tour is dependent on the weather and sky conditions and we reserve the right to cancel at any time. If the evening tour goes ahead and the Northern Lights are not seen, we will offer you to try once again for free!

It is important to understand that in Iceland you can experience all four seasons in less than one day. It is vital to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing like waterproof, walking shoes, dress in layers to be able to enjoy your journey to the fullest.

Day 2. The Amazing Blue Lagoon

Pick up at your hotel in the morning. The non-guided bus transfer takes you to this unique geothermal spa called The Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is located in the middle of one of the most recent lava fields in west Iceland. Here you can relax in the refreshing and healing water of The Blue Lagoon before you return to Reykjavík where you will spend the rest of your day.

Day 3. Eyjafjallajökull Exclusive by Super Jeep

The pick up for this tour starts at 08:30. This is one of the most popular tours in Iceland and the setting for the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption in 2010. During the eruption millions of liters of melted ice from Eyjafjallajokull came bursting down the mountainside causing massive destructive floods on its way to the Atlantic and changed the scenery for years to come.

The first stop of the day is at one of Iceland’s loveliest waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss. Here the sure-footed can walk behind the thundering cascade but be careful as the trails is narrow and a bit slippery. Extra caution is especially needed during the winter and good footwear is recommended. This is one of the most photographed places in Iceland and for good reason. During the winter, the waterfall is lit up so you can enjoy it’s magic all year round. Then it’s on to a spectacular hidden canyon rich with unique flora, green moss and a beautiful waterfall. Depending on conditions, we will either be making a stop at Gljúfrabúi or Nauthúsagil.

Now it’s time for more action as we head to Gigjökull glacier tongue. The driver will deflate the tires for some serious jeep action, including splashing through glacier rivers, so fasten your seatbelts and keep your windows closed and experience the fun!

Before we leave for the black sands we enjoy a light lunch that’s included in the tour price. This is a good opportunity to try the Icelandic meat soup made with lamb, rice and vegetables. This traditional soup is a hearty and popular meal that’s kept Icelanders warm and energetic through the centuries when food was scarce.

After lunch, the tour takes you for a fun action drive to the black volcano beaches of the south, where you have panoramic views in all directions with the Atlantic Ocean beating the shore on one side and glaciers and volcanos on the other.

Our last stop of the day is one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, the impressive Skógafoss. It brings water from the 2 glaciers surrounding it, Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Due to the amount of spray rainbows are usually visible on sunny days but the spray means you’re likely to get wet if you get up close. But you should definitely take the extra steps as it’s quite empowering standing close to it. The Skógafoss area is also the starting point for those that wish to hike over Fimmvörđuháls over to Ţórsmörk, one of the most popular hiking routes in Iceland.

A light lunch is included in the tour.

Please bring loose change for toilet fees, warm clothes, a camera and some snacks for the ride.

Day 4. Explore Reykjavík on your own

Here you have a free day to explore on your own.

Day 5. The Golden Circle Classic by bus

The Golden Circle Classic Tour takes you from Reykjavik city to Ţingvellir National Park, arguably the most important site in Iceland in terms of history, culture, and geology.

A UNESCO world heritage site, Ţingvellir National Park is home to Iceland‘s largest natural lake and the place where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia split and drift apart. Ţingvellir is also the birth place of the Old Icelandic Commonwealth and the Alţingi assembly, where Iceland’s most powerful leaders met to decide on legislation and carry out brutal viking-age justice.

From Ţingvellir, the tour continues through an area of beautiful scenery towards two of Iceland's greatest natural attractions at Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area.

At Gullfoss waterfall you can take a short walk down a pathway and get right up close to this powerful waterfall and feel the mist of glacial water on your face as it cascades down into the narrow Hvítárgljúfur Canyon.

Lunch break is usually taken at Gullfoss Cafe or at the service center at the Geysir area.

The Geysir area home of "The Great Geysir" hot spring, which all geysers are named after, this area is an impressive collage of bubbling mud pools, hissing steam vents, and colourful algae deposits. It also features one of the world's most reliable fountain geyser, Strokkur hot spring, that every 4 to 8 minutes blasts out a column of super heated water up to 20 metres into the air.
