Day 3: The Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon
You will head inland for the famous Golden Circle route, first stopping at the impressive Kerið Volcanic Crater, then further inland to Faxi Waterfall. Your next stop will be the Geysir Geothermal area with various kinds of hot springs and the famous geysers Strokkur and Geysir. Strokkur is an active geyser that spouts boiling hot water 15 to 20 meters up in the air every few minutes. Only a short distance from the Geysir geothermal area you will find the majestic and impressive Gullfoss, also known as The Golden Waterfall, which is one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland. Next you will continue to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the place where the Icelandic Parliament was established in 930. It is located on the spot where two continental plates meet creating a fascinating rift valley. Þingvellir is hauntingly beautiful, despite its rugged lunar-like landscapes. Then, across the Mosfellsheiði Heath head back to Reykjavík. The guide will take you to the Blue Lagoon, situated in the middle of a black lava field rich in silica and blue-green algae, which gives the lagoon its reputed healing powers. Stop to soak in the refreshing and healing waters of the lagoon and have a last wonderful taste of Iceland.
